Right now, my throat is sore from coughing, my head is congested, there's a throbbing sensation behind my eyes and my joints are aching. I'm telling you this so you understand why I'd rather be laying in bed with the covers over my head--than writing this blog post. I picked up some sort of virus a few days ago, and every moment of every day I'm reminded of the foreign invader trying to take over my body and zap all my energy.

Nonetheless, blogging is my happy place--so alarms went off when I heard myself think, "I don't feel like it." Earlier this morning, I was in the kitchen fixing tea and washing dishes while lost in a stream of mindless chatter. Before giving myself an opportunity to make a productive decision about what I'd do next, I was already offering up excuses. How often does this happen to us? We talk ourselves out of the win that will fuel our next win. Life is a series of small choices, and today, I choose to show up for myself. I choose to override the "I don't feel like it" with a quiet but resolute "I'm doing it anyway." It's not about perfection; it's about embracing the messy middle.

As I tap away on my keyboard, I realize that the act of starting has its own magic. It's a rebellion against resistance, a gentle protest against the notion that we need to feel ready or inspired to begin. I'm no longer focused on how I feel. Now I'm excited about offering a little bit of inspiration that might get you to fold one sweater, wash one dish or organize one shelf in your linen closet when you don't feel like it.

So, my friend, what's your small act of defiance today? What's that thing you've been putting off? And more importantly, what is the smallest step you can do to get started? Are you ready to do one small thing in the direction of your greater goal? Maybe it's time to stand up and whisper to yourself, "I'm starting," and see where that courage takes you. In the ordinary moments of starting, we can find extraordinary resilience. Let's face the discomfort, one word or one small battle at a time.
