Why Can't I Lose Weight?

9/10/20232 min read

This post is for readers who are frustrated with how difficult it is to lose weight. Your weight loss, just like everything else in your life, is your responsibility; however, our country’s culture and politics continue to work against us.

There are many reasons why it’s difficult to lose weight, but here are just a few that I find particularly frustrating:

Big Pharma & the Food Industry: Imagine what it would do to our economy if we all got healthy and stopped fueling the sugar industry. Some sources forecast the sugar industry to make 40 billion dollars in revenue in 2023. Can you remove 40 billion dollars from a country's GDP without it crashing? I don’t think so. Add to that the medication our country won’t need because we are healthy. It doesn’t seem likely that the organizations who are literally killing us will stop anytime soon.

Stress: When we are stressed, our bodies produce cortisol, a hormone that can cause weight gain and make it harder to lose weight. Does our culture promote stress? Of course it does! Do our school systems teach our children how to handle stress without medication? Of course they don’t! We take civics classes as early as grade school, but we don’t learn how to be good citizens by choosing to live a more peaceful lifestyle. Have you ever noticed that viral videos that make the news are often of fights caught on camera by bystanders? Additionally, stress can lead to emotional eating, which always sabotages weight loss efforts.

Pre-existing Conditions: Get ready for another chicken and the egg analogy! I’m sorry to do it, but it’s true. Underlying health conditions can make it difficult to lose weight. Conditions such as hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and insulin resistance make it harder to lose weight. But the million dollar question is: were we born with a predetermination for these conditions or did our lifestyle create them? Come on, now isn't the time to stick your head in the sand! Of course there are exceptions, but I would wager that most strokes, heart attacks and other chronic diseases are caused by our lifestyle and poor eating habits. All of these conditions effect the body's ability to regulate hormones and metabolism, making it harder to shed pounds. But you can’t watch television without seeing ads that are basically heart attacks wrapped up in a burrito, that's stuffed in a pizza, that’s dipped in flour and then fried. It's like they want us to eat all the junk food in one sitting!

Were you aware that YouTube is in cahoots with the World Health Organization to censor people and even doctors who speak out about alternative ways to lose weight and cure chronic conditions? Check out this video if your jaw just dropped.

Okay, I’m done with the finger pointing–now join me in turning that same finger back at ourselves. We need to know how people, we will never meet, are effecting the food we eat. They care more about lining their pockets and keeping their shareholders happy than keeping us healthy. And that’s the truth whether we like it or not. Do your research. Change your life. No one will do it for you.
