Imagine driving on a dark Saturday morning through a thick blanket of fog. The glow of your headlights is stifled by midst and everything on the road beyond a mile in front of you has disappeared. As you drive, you sit up a little straighter and grip the steering wheel a little tighter. In the face of uncertainty, you keep pressure on the gas pedal, waiting for the next stretch of highway to appear. Every moment and every mile is touch-and-go under these conditions. When you reach your destination, you finally relax into your seat, take a deep breath and release the muscles in your neck and shoulders. You made it—in spite of the fog.
Fog creates disconnect and uncertainty on the road, just as unforeseen challenges can cause upheaval in our lives. Sometimes upheaval is fleeting, and the fog lifts quickly. Other times, it lingers, and your rut grows so wide and so deep that you can't find a way out. I've learned that the longer you're in a rut, the more you identify with it, mistakenly believing you are the problem, not just facing one.
Friends, please hear this: amidst endless challenges, you are not defined by the rut you're in. Additionally, your identity is not tethered to the anxiety, stress or depression caused by the struggle. Your struggle is just one side of the coin; your resilience is the other side. History tells us—the larger the fall, the larger the triumph. It's easy to underestimate your strength when faced with adversity, but every trial you endure is a testament to your ability to rise above it.
Just keep going. Moving forward is like pushing the fog out of your way. With each step, you affirm to yourself and the universe, "I WILL remain steadfast in my right to experience the beauty of my dreams. I deserve a life that suits me and creates peace in my heart, just as I believe others should have the same." Fog doesn't have the power to erase our destination, only to make it harder to see.
When you find yourself paralyzed, believe in the future you want. Find the courage to trust in the power of your personal journey, especially when the view from behind the wheel is uncertain. The beauty of life is that it unveils itself gradually, and the most fulfilling moments often come after the fog has lifted. Eventually, you will be able to sit back and relax. The road to your destination may be out of sight for the moment, but your destination still awaits you.
